More to Sea

One of the reasons why I love to stay at D-SHEP FARM is because of the sea side "jogging route". The scenery is simply adorable considering that there is not much to "see but more to sea." I always look forward to the different hues of the sunset. They constantly change every single day.

New year Celebration at D-SHEP Farm

We decided to share the new year's celebration with DSFA faculty and staff along with their children plus kids from the nearby communities. 
Here's what we did for the preparation. Unfortunately, our FZ1000 can't shot under low-light conditions to show the actual party.

Welcome to D-SHEP FARM!

This is my first progress report as of January 2, 2016!

Why put up and invest in D-SHEP FARM?

To provide a stable business venture to support the financial requirements of D-SHEP FOUNDATION ACADEMY and provide decent jobs to its nearby community.

Entrance to the farm.  The farm is located within Sta. Lucia II, Receiving, Sablayan Occidental Mindoro. It’s a 10-minute walk from D-SHEP FOUNDATION ACADEMY. 
D-SHEP was about to sell this 1.6 hectare land which belonged to the late our teacher, Mr. Hallasgo. So on June 1, 2015, we decided to take over the vacant lot and start developing it through the help of our caretaker, Mr. Lito Masculino, matagal na kakilala naten since the birth of DSFA.

Growth in its initial stage

Hopefully gumanda panahon ng husto. We are not affected by drought because we recently installed a pump “patubigan”.
I miss to see a morning dew ever since we transferred to Cainta, Rizal in 2004.

Weeds Growing

Lito will plant the ideal crops by the end of the first week of January. So far, he already planted Corn (ang sarap kagabi we boiled ‘em), then peanuts, plus kamoteng kahoy. Ideally, cassava din sana para we can use it to make chicken feeds.

Sobrang sarap ng nilagang corn na ito kahit maliliit palang. Imagine if we have many of these and malalaki. The growth success depends on the caretaker, kung paano sya mag apply ng fertilizer sa tamang timing… Hindi pwede basta basta apply lang. Unfortunately, the recent storm affected the crops kaya sila maliit ngayon.

Neighboors

Halo-halo neighboors dito. That means we have a good chance of helping the community sa pamagitan ng medical dental mission outreach programs.

 

Our lifestyle here

Sobrang simple lang buhay dito sa province. We decided to have our kubo constructed na baryo style nothing magarang. We want to experience how it is like living simple compared sa city na panay aircon, complete with amenities and comfort.
A few years ago, walang kuryente dito. Ngayon kakabit lang last month. Wala na bayad sa tubig since poso lang.

 

 

Dewende Park - Soon

We are planning to put up a theme park called, "Dewende Park, kung saan lahat ng tao swineswerte."
Mag open sya from 7 pm to 10 pm. Ideally, we will sell ice cream, balut, pizza, and other healthy and unhealthy foods :-) This is where students, teachers, the entire community can bond, collaborate on special projects, chat, etc.

 Sa loob ng Dewende park, andito din yung pina chainsaw ni mommy na mahogany. Then meron din mga herbs na di ko alam. Imagine steady yung hands ng nag cha-chainsaw, nakakagawa sila ng 2x2x8 na kahoy for building materials etc.

Meet the goats

The goats here are amazing. Mommy bought one and nanganak after a few weeks. Ako naman I got one (brown) pregnant but I don't know when manganak.

Meet Buday! I'm guessing she heard squirrels kaya ganito pose nya. Eh wala naman squirrels sa farm.

Chickens

Originally I wanted to put up a poultry farm lang talaga. But since malaki naman yung lupa, madami pa naman ways to utilize the land.

Week old palang mga ito. You should have seen our 1st batch harvest, parang pang 11th batch na ata ito. Unfortunately, I lost P80,000.00 sa pinaka first harvest dahil nagkaroon ng mis-communication kami sa farm. The harvesters kept on harvesting the chickens kahit wala na lalagyan. After the incident, hindi parin kami sumuko. We continued parin the poultry aspect ng farm. Besides, I fell in love with chickens after I tried raising 14 of them sa backyard namin in Cainta. P130 to P150 per kilo ngayon bentahan ng manok dito. One chicken usually weighs 1.3 to 2 kilos dressed na sya. Maganda parin profit margin ng poultry business. Dapat maramihan lang talaga and we are still finding ways para maging malusog sila and free from known diseases.

 Then we use IPA bed para sa mga bagong batch ng sisiw.

 

The Chicken Coop

Chicken Coop.  This chicken coop was stripped down lately because we needed to sanitize it and improve the structure. Dami kase mga bokbok (fine bamboo dust). Kaya we intend to reconstruct a chicken house na di cement na with yero as bubong. It requires a larger capital pero once established na, this will significantly increase the chances of good growth and disease free chickens. Akalain mo, harvest time ng manok is less than 33 days hindi na 45 days as before. Parang may growth hormones na yung feeds kaya we are looking for alternatives din para hindi sakitin mga manok. We'll start with bio-security, dapat maganda at malinis environment nila. Panalo na P50,000.00 lang for the new structure.

Nag tanim kami ng Oregano for the chickens.

Native chickens and ducks

Lito brought in two native chickens in the farm. In a matter of weeks, dumami na sila.

Yung ducks ni Lito di naman nag swi-swimming sa stream.

Hog wire and net.  We don’t raise pigs here but we have installed hog wire and net para hindi makapasok mga native chickens sa 45 day breed chickens. We don’t want them infecting the little ones.
